A reasonable viewpoint on Fox!

Take a look at this. Yes, scroll down a little bit past how his day went. Down to the part where he’s talking about retired military commanders’ criticisms of the war…

I love it. He acknowledges that he doesn’t know all of what they’re saying; he allows that they probably have some credibility; he parries the common critique of “why criticize NOW?”; and then he very astutely wonders if opposing opinions are being aired.

As you, my two semi-faithful readers, probably know, I am not keen on the war OR how it’s being fought. For some poor soul who has just happened across this commentary, welcome, and for the record my dissatisfaction with the war and how it’s being fought does NOT extend to thinking we should haul the troops back as fast as our transports can go, nor even to setting a specific timeline.

Anyway, my point is that this Captain Sukman seems to “get” what 99% of the people I hear in the media seem to have missed: there’s usually more to the story than we know, and there are usually pretty good arguments to be made by people on all sides of an issue. It is really, really rare that an issue is truly cut-and-dried, whatever my sister tries to tell you. For all that I didn’t like Senator Kerry as a presidential candidate, he was absolutely right that most things are more complicated than a 30-second rebuttal could possibly address.
