Too cool!
Kasia July 23rd, 2007
I meant to post a blurb about this when I noticed it a couple of weeks ago, but kept getting distracted.
My confessor (who is also DJ’s priest) actually has a t-shirt with the Memorare printed on the back. I’ve never seen that before, even on a priest. How cool is that?!?
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful; O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your clemency hear and answer me. Amen.
Since I’m still a little “erm…” on the Blessed Mother, can someone please confirm for me that her ‘hearing and answering’ me is her interceding for me with her Son?
UPDATE: WOOO! Check it out! http://www.iamonetruth.com/shirts/iamonetruth_shirts.html
Yup. Your correct. Ater all, God is thesource of all good stuff. And, to answer our Protestant siblings, What Good Jewish Son doesn’t listen to His Mother????

How cool indeed?
But what else would you expect from this amazing priest? BTW, our new associate pastor arrives from Slovakia today!

I usually connect these two phrases in the Memorare:
sought your intercession and hear and answer me
If you ask the Blessed Mother’s intercession and she fulfills that request, she’s answered you. Does that help, or should I dig up some more on this topic?
Oh, and check out this thread on the Catholic Answers Forums.
LOL to both of you.
DJ, I never would have expected any priest to have a t-shirt with the Memorare printed on it, simply because it would never have occurred to me that such a thing might exist. However, if I expected ANY priest to have it, it would be Fr. Ben, no question. New associate pastor from Slovakia, eh?
Glad he’s going to have a bit of help…
I’m still waffling about whether to change parishes, but barring a major, compelling reason to do so, I’m not going to make a decision before at least Thanksgiving or Christmas. I still love St. A’s, but I’m not entirely comfortable with Fr. JJ’s style yet (of course, I’ve still only seen him celebrate one Mass so far), but even so, that’s not the kind of thing I want to change parishes over, know what I mean?
Does it make me a really bad Catholic because, when I first read this post, I read “Memorare” as “Menorah” and though to myself, “Why would a priest have a t-shirt with a picture of a Menorah on the back?”
Just asking …
Go to Mass on a Sunday morning with Fr. JJ. I suspect you’ll be favorably impressed. He’s a good, sincere Catholic priest, and he didn’t cross any lines in his preaching.
And, I do know what you mean regarding style. It may be difficult to adjust, but a style preference alone doesn’t seem like a very strong reason to switch parishes. I wouldn’t leave SS C&M unless the priests started contradicting Church teaching.
DJ, I would just like to point out that you and SS. C&M is a bad example, because it very much is in line with your style preferences!
But I get what you mean, and we’re in agreement. I’m feeling a little “meh” about St. A’s right now, but I’ve also hardly been there this month – The Canuck and I have been primarily attending Mass in Canada. Did I mention that there’s a Polish parish in Chatham, where they do First Fridays?! One lone beacon of hope shining out for me, from the darkness that is southwestern Ontario…
…seriously, I should start posting about my experiences at parishes he and I visit in Chatham and London. I at least wouldn’t sound as much like an arbitrary Mass snob…maybe more of a principled Mass snob…
Canuck, sweetheart, considering the level of catechesis I’ve experienced thus far in southwestern Ontario, I’m just glad you saw something weird about a priest wearing a t-shirt with a menorah printed on it.
KIDDING!!! Totally kidding. No, but it is kind of funny…I mean, I know Catholicism has its roots in Judaism, but last I checked the Maccabees weren’t in the litany of saints…

But you know, it wouldn’t have been my style preference if I hadn’t met Fr. Ben before any other Catholic priest! He’s conditioned me to like a more traditional style of worship, but if he’d been on the more charismatic end, who knows? I may’ve ended up liking that instead.
Did I tell you that Fr. is planning on starting a TLM in January?
Mmm…you know yourself far better than I do, of course, but I don’t know that you would’ve turned out a Charismatic if Fr. Ben had been one. Fr. John has Charismatic influences, but I definitely prefer the tradition and reverence of SS. C&M to any Charismatic parish I’ve visited.
No, you didn’t mention that. Interesting! You know I’m more of a Novus Ordo gal myself, but I might check out the TLM again if Fr. Ben is doing it.
Hey Canuck, speaking of January, one of those Memorare t-shirts might be a nice birthday present for me…
Perhaps I was overstating it with the comment about becoming charismatic. Perhaps I should’ve said that, if Fr. Ben had offered Mass in a way that looked/sounded like St. A’s, I would prefer that instead.
I’ve never visited a charismatic parish. You’ll have to share your experiences some time. I suspect it would look something like St. A’s LifeTeen Mass, no?
And, you’ll definitely have to check out Fr. Ben’s TLM (6:30 PM Saturday evenings, starting in January). My personal preference is for the Novus Ordo (and even then, the Latin N.O. at Assumption Grotto felt a bit too stiff and formal for my liking), but I went to a TLM celebrated by Fr. Ben at St. Josaphat and appreciated the reverent manner in which it was conducted (even though I was hopelessly lost).
In fairness, I’ve only visited one Charismatic parish, and not for a Healing Mass. I should give it a try sometime, I suppose. Broaden my horizons and all that.
6:30 Saturday evenings. I’ll definitely give it a shot, and will bring a missal this time so I’m not lost like I was the first time. Just make sure you cover Julie for First Fridays…I don’t want to lose my Mass buddy!
You and Julie have First Fridays as long as you need ‘em.
I think I’ll have to order a 1962 Missal and study it a bit before the TLM starts. I’m even thinking of volunteering as an altar server.
You can probably get the text off the Internet for free, unless you really want to order the Missal…
Ooo, volunteering as an altar server! Any chance there could be a vocation to the diaconate when some of the kids have grown up?…
Any chance there could be a vocation to the diaconate when some of the kids have grown up?
Who knows? Maybe God will call me in that direction in the future!
