According to this article, Thai cops who break rules or commit misdemeanors will be required to wear Hello Kitty armbands around the stationhouse all day.
It’s a pretty simple concept – shame them into behaving – and officials are hoping it will ultimately discourage more serious offenses, like mistreatment of the public. Kind of like the zero-tolerance approach Giuliani took in NYC – prosecute for jaywalking or littering – only for the cops instead of the public.
I wish someone had suggested that when our illustrious mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick, was discovered to have leased a luxury SUV for his wife on city money…
