I agree, “I am sure that this would offend me if I could only stop laughing…”
P.s.
have you tried the Jerusalem bible? or New Jerusalem bible. The NJB is awesome, as with other Catholic version.
No, so far I’ve only experience NAB and RSV in the Catholic Bible-sphere. I’ve seen a bit fo the NRSV, which I wasn’t impressed with (not a fan of regendering things), but not the JB or NJB.
I’m more familiar with Protestant Bibles, actually, since I only converted at Easter. I love the KJV. I don’t care for the NIV but it’s useful for some purposes (much like the NAB). I don’t remember being dazzled with the Good News Bible, but I gave away my copy several years ago.
I will definitely check out the NJB. Thanks for the tip!
BTW, if you want to really laugh hard (and feel vaguely offended at the same time), chek out Job 1 in the LOLCats Bible translation. Again: it’s so WRONG, but I can’t stop laughing…
Reminds me of when the “Klingon Bible” came out (almost as bad as Shakespear in Kilingon).
Ignatius Press has a Catholic version of the NRSV. The NRSV seems to be preferred by Bible Scholars (both Catholic and mainstream Protestant). I prefer the JB myself (the NJB lost some of the poetic flavor in some passages), and the Duey-Rheims version (if you like the KJV) is still available from some Catholic Bible sources.
Ai can has Eucharist and ated it alreadies todai. Lolcat wai 2 kewl. Doktrz heer wurrid. Luff me anywaiz? kthxbai
I’m glad you converted. The Douay Rheims, is before the KJV, same language, also translation of vulgate, but unlike the kjv, they did not take out 7 books from the second version.
Here some bible versions http://scripturelink.googlepages.com/bibletranslationsweendo rse
