Who ARE these guys?!

That creche figure I thought was St. Joseph that isn’t? I don’t think he’s a shepherd, because they’re dressed differently and have sheep worked into their figurines.
I’ve accounted for everyone I can think of. They’re not shepherds (I don’t think). They’re not angels. They’re not the Three Kings. They aren’t even the Three Kings’ three attendants (we have those, along with the camels). And they’re certainly not St. Mary. She’s accounted for, as is St. Joseph (as I previously mentioned).
So…who else would’ve been present at the birth of Christ? Any thoughts?
The innkeeper who let them use his stable? You know Abigail’s husband.
I may be able tp solve the mystery next time I’m over.
You could always put him in “his room” for coming without a nametag!
Maybe he’s meant to represent all who approach the Manger this Christmas.
Don’t treat the party-crashers too harshly. After all, if I were there at the time, I SO would be at the manger, invitation or no…
Maybe you’ve got an Orthodox Nativity set! In which case, the guy in brown could be St. Joseph, and the guy with the white beard, leaning on his staff is…THE DEVIL!
Yes, it’s true (sort of). I don’t actually know if the Orthodox even HAVE Nativity sets. But I HAVE seen many Russian Orthodox icons of the Nativity, and they do feature an old, white-bearded figure, leaning on a cane, who stands near St. Joseph and whispers doubts to him. Here’s a picture of one: http://www.stxenia.ca/en/album/icons.html?img=icon19.jpg
St. Joseph is at the lower left on the icon, with the old man in front of him.
