Not too shabby…

clamrampant January 1st, 2008

…quite a ways to go yet, though. I did a map at travelbuddy.com, and apparently I’ve visited 6% of the countries of the world. (However, I cannot recommend their site because every time I try to post the map here on chez Clam, the coding changes to just a widget. Very frustrating!)

I did cheat a bit with the U.S. states, and counted ones I’d driven or ridden through (i.e. Kansas and Nebraska – actually, I’m not sure I’ve ridden through Kansas, now that I think about it). However, I’ve got all sorts of memories and stories to go with each of these. And just think: if I’d only gotten onto the wrong train in Brno (like I almost did), I would’ve been able to add Slovakia to my list; likewise, if I had not heard or had disregarded the last-minute warning about active paramilitaries en route, I could’ve bussed from Dubrovnik to Sarajevo and added Bosnia-Herzegovina. (For the record, I stand by my decision.)

Curtsy to Melanie at the Wine-Dark Sea.

I just did one of those maps on my facebook, and I think it said I have visited 6 or 7% of the world as well. It’s a good start. I’m not complaining. :-)
