And a quick postscript about Meijer

Kasia October 28th, 2008

I decided to invest in a few pairs of flannel jammies this winter so I can dial the heat further down. TBS suggested I look at Meijer.

Well, they had a few pairs, but nothing I could envision myself voluntarily wearing. So I looked at their other jammies, figuring that as long as they were reasonably warm, they didn’t have to be specifically flannel.

Most of their stuff is really obnoxiously cutesy, I have to tell you. Cute for a 14-year-old, but not for an almost-32-year-old, you know? I was audibly grumbling to TBS about how they don’t seem to realize that ADULT women need jammies too, and that we don’t all want “Sassy!” across our behinds (ok, that wasn’t actually an option, but you get my drift). But I picked out two of the least obnoxious sets and a set of men’s long johns (hey, warm and comfy) and called it a party.

I just tried the jammies on.

I hate myself.

They are SO CUTE!!!!!!!

I confess when I bought them I was expecting that they’d look totally stupid on a woman my age. And maybe they do, to be fair - and even if Canuck were here to judge, he’d hardly be impartial. But I think they’re adorable. Even if they do have pink snowflakes (on one) and pictures of candy (on the other).

I so totally hate myself! I’m supposed to hate these!!!!!!!

AAAAAUUUGH!!!

:-p

Embrace the jammies. Feeeel the jammies! Become ONE with the JAMMIES!!!!

I have PJs, too. I have always preferred nightgowns and wore PJs only in the winter (flannel).

I got my first pair of the new fleece PJs at the Hanes Outlet near PH. They are a bright red top and white bottoms with cherries as big as my thumbprint.

Then I bought Sis a pair and she loved them, too. She lives in a Victorian house on the Ohio prairie, so it’s rather chilly. Her hubby told me that she lived in them last winter.

They really are great. I have several pairs, including summer weight. I like them better than nightgowns.

Hehe, I’ve got two pairs– one is lovely gray and tartan, I think it’s supposed to be for a 14 year old boy…the other is deep blue, with moons and stars all over.

And they’re soooooo warm and comfy!

Jean- I’ve tried nightgowns, but the only ones that I don’t end up uncomfortably wrapped up in are the silky ones, and they don’t *make* those in basic, not-really-sexy forms in any place I can afford…. I wore the ones I got from my grandma until they fell apart! (20 years of regular use– dang good investment)

    (insert giggling here…) ;-)
It’s okay to like the cute jammies.
Of course, this is coming from a woman with loads of ‘em - my favorite pair are pink; they’re soft, lightweight flannel with teddy bears and moons (blush).
Just keep telling yourself that they are warm and functional. And not only are they cute but the added bonus is that you probably look dang cute in them — always a plus for an almost newlywed-married-lady!
I don’t know, first come the cute jammies and then who knows? Perhaps there may be girly tea sandwiches in your future after all….
whoops! did I just say that out loud? ;-)

You’re getting married in January, right? Might not be needing flannel jammies much after that…

Well, I *love* the obnoxiously cute! Say nothing of my yellow jammies with green froggies that say “Frogever Friends.” Then, too, there are my Jonah whale socks, my cerulean and lime ladybug socks, my orange with pink and yellow butterfly shorts….

What about those jammies with the coffee cups on them? You look pretty cute in them :)
Michelle: I like your line of reasoning ;)

Oh yeah - my winter jammie wardrobe is replete with Lands End flannel pj’s and Lanz of Salzburg nighties! You spend a third of your life sleeping, so why not spend it in the warmest, softest jammies possible? (FYI, maybe TMI, the Beloved thinks the flannel jammies are dead-sexy…plus he likes snuggling up next to them because they are “warm, soft, and smell like you and your perfume…”)

Love of jammies is a Christmas tradition here, too - I get a new nightie or top/bottom from “Mrs. Claus” and the girls get matching or coordinating patterns, as does the Beloved (usually pants and a jammie shirt, although he does secretly love the nightshirt I got him a few years back - but one of his nasty sisters made fun of a Christmas morning pic we took of him wearing it…)

Kohls has great, non-”message”-bearing jammies in all sizes, too, which makes our summer matching jammie shopping most convenient. When I was pregnant at Christmastime 2 years ago, I was thrilled that they had many styles and coordinating patterns ranging in size from Ladies XS (for Our Lady of Fatima with Glasses) to 3W (got and still like wearing the 1W for Big Mamma Kit!). This year we will be doing Lands End again - they’ve got some really pretty flannels…

P.S. Make sure you register for flannel bed sheets!!!

    Where to begin?

Kit - I love my flannel bedsheets - I have two sets. But now that you mention it, I might have to register for another one, just in case one of the sets wears out any time soon. I don’t know how I ever made it through winter without flannel sheets!

And as Canuck implied, he digs the one pair of flannel jammies I already have (they have coffee cups on them - they match the fleecy robe I got at the same time).

The candy-patterned ones are fleece-bottom and cotton-topped. The ones with snowflakes are like a waffle weave. And I like them both so much that I think I’m going to take the long johns back to Meijer and exchange them for another pair of proper jammies, however cutesy.

Jill - I will never say never, but I will say it’s unlikely - I have always been a hearty-food gal through and through. It’s the peasant stock… ;-)
